Blue Angels wow Redding, CA Airshow ‘09 crowd September 30, 2009
The Blue Angels are the Navy’s jet team who wow the crowd every time.
The Exchange Club of Redding has done it again! They were able to draw a big crowd pleaser by getting the Blue Angels in the lineup at the 2009 Airshow in Redding, CA. While the temps were soaring, so were the planes and the sky divers. What a tremendous show. The ground show was also tremendous with a whole field of planes to tantalize people – real eye candy. This is no “small town” affair.
It is a “spit and shined” show and one that keeps drawing good sized crowds despite what is going on in the economy. A great family affair.
The Golden Knights performed – diving out of the sky. An amazing and beautiful thing to watch. Thousands of people were there finding shelter where they could out of the hot 107 degree sun. Some were smart and brought umbrellas. Sunblock was a must!
The first airshow the Redding Exchange Club put on was in 1985. Most years they have one of the 3 jet teams – the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, Canadian Snowbirds, or the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels. The Club has been able to now donate close to $1 million to various charities in the community over the years. How cool is that?
The actual show was on September 26-27 but the performers always show up earlier in the week to get their bearings. They also like to have a little down time to enjoy some of what the Redding, CA area has to offer geographically. Often they are able to get out to Shasta Lake on a houseboat or perhaps enjoy the Sacramento River. The mountains are not far away in 3 directions.
We were gone on Friday, the 25th. The jet team was practicing and our world traveling son, Will Lascelles, happened to be home and caught this very unique shot of the 6 Blue Angels flying overhead in formation with the jet trails and our dog is there taking it all in – as you can see! NOT! To get the 6 jets in formation with jet trails is one thing but to get this moment captured, well, let’s just say I would have leapt for joy to see it! Photography is my hobby but Will has had fun traveling the world to get “the shot.” How cool it was that he was able to get “the shot” right here! It got HIS adrenaline pumping – no doubt!
Redding, California – situated at the north end of the Sacramento River Valley and a town of just 90,000 people – never ceases to amaze me in terms of the variety of things to do here.
What a great place this is to live. It’s hot in the summer but it keeps the population reasonable. You might say Redding is a well kept secret! Ssshhh!
I wonder what jet team will be here for the Redding Airshow in 2-3 years’ time!
