Back to Work – 2010 – A New Decade January 3, 2010

A new year breeds hope and energy.  The human spirit is triumphant!

I know I’m excited to get back to work after quieter work days during the Holidays.  Over breakfast this morning, there was a discussion about the past decade.
CBS Sunday Morning, a show I try to watch each week, was reviewing the past decade. It’s the very reason for this discussion when we went to the Cedar Tree for breakfast.  There we sat recalling each year between 2000 and 2009…year by year.

What our memory coughed up was mostly positive.  Yes, there were some big and bad things that happened but the things we remembered FIRST were the good things.  Amazing, that!  We were able to do some really fun trips including Hong Kong, Macau, and Australia and also to New Zealand and through the Deep South in the United States.

We grew a business, sold a business, built a house and moved.  We have our first pool ever!  To think we denied our children of this when they were living at home!

Moving Links 4 You was successfully launched helping people selling, buying, and moving which is very exciting.

Our sons have grown into interesting and fun young men making their way in this very “different to the 70’s” world we launched ourselves into.  It is so rewarding to “pick their brains” and see what they think about the current state of this or that.  Their world in their 20’s certainly differs from our world when we were their age – but when WASN’T that so with different generations?

We’ve seen our community grow over the past decade in some pretty wonderful ways.  The internet has taken hold even more and there is the Social Media that I’ve become really involved with and enjoy so much.  I’ve always always always had an appreciation for people everywhere.  To so easily connect now to old friends we’ve not seen in eons and then meet new friends from here, there and everywhere – well, what can I say?  I think I’m in heaven. LinkedIn and Facebook have been amazing.

I don’t know about you, but I am so very excited about 2010 and the decade to come.  Each decade has a difference.  Each decade is good.  But I remind myself that is is largely about attitude and what we bring to the table.  I want it to be the best decade yet so it’s got a pretty tough order to fill.  It’s up to me.  It’s up to us.

These were just some random, rambling thoughts entering the New Year…  ~ReloMary

Hi, Mary, and happy new year to you and yours!

These have been interesting and challenging times, for sure. I began 2000 with three jobs, all of them part-time, in the broadcasting industry. At times, I needed a scorecard to know which job I was scheduled for on any given day. I ended 2009 with no jobs at all, thanks to corporate job eliminations. In between, it certainly was an interesting ride!

As we begin 2010, the magic of social media websites has allowed me to greatly expand my freelance voiceover and writing career. I’ve connected with some great people, yourself included, and I look forward to more connections in and out of cyberspace. LinkedIn has certainly been a key marketing tool for me.

I wish you and your clients all the best in the year ahead…and I’ll be out there soon to do some cannonballs into your pool! :-)

I agree we set the tone of the world. If we pick up the reins we can go anywhere. I have seen my dreams slash and thrown out the window but as I look around I have had some of the best three years under the hardest of conditions. I think we all have a powerful spirit that can move us through a lot. I again will put on my muck boots and dig myself out from this little hibernation. Thanks Mary for your continued support I would recommend you in a second.
I had one of the best times with you sitting right here in my living room. Thanks again for making the effort to make that a success for me.
I now feel like I have gotten to meet a extrodinary young man, Will Lascelles who is helping make another dream come true through his great photo journalism. Thanks so much for that introduction.
I’m off to paint but I wanted to make sure to Thank you , Thank you , Thank you…always Lulu
