Help! Moles Need to Relocate Now! August 10, 2010

We’ve spent time and money trying to rid our yard of these pesty moles.  Our yard was beautiful earlier in the summer but they have found us!

I’ve talked to others who have mentioned various concoctions to get rid of them.  Use a smoke bomb.  Try minced garlic.  How about bubble gum?

The time and energy that goes into keeping a beautiful yard is getting rather ridiculous.  I called our pest guy today and he said it could be an uphill battle but they’ll do what they can.  He comes in a couple days.  I thought I would ask YOU – in the meantime – if you know.  Maybe I can impress the pest guy!

If we don’t find a solution, I’m imagining our house caving in when enough tunnels have been created from the front yard to backyard under our house.

PLEASE HELP by leaving your suggestions below. I’ll let you know what worked – if anything does – short of relocating ourselves away from their habitat.

Mary had a little Mole –
Mary’s yard now had holes -
But Mole control was Mary’s goal –
Mary placed big traps over every hole –
The price of the traps cost Mary a cash role –
But she knew not doing so now would take its toll –
Mary then starved the trapped moles until Heaven took their soul –
Then Mary removed the mole traps and completely filled in each mole hole –
Now Mary has no cash role and lives on the dole but has no Moles or Mole holes –
Now everywhere that Mary goes she tells all her friends she has no more Moles or holes –

I am simply – um – stunned, Jeff! Very clever!!

I’ve heard that Juicy Fruit gum works — fresh, not chewed, and not touched with your bare hands. Sounds nasty, but they eat it and choke on it. In all reality, tho’, you need to get rid of the grubs under the sod. Destroy the food supply, they go elsewhere. I believe what you need to put on the lawn is called ‘milky spore’ which will get rid of the grubs. It’s not a one-time thing. So long as their favorite morsels are there, the moles will stay or return.

Lots of Juicy Fruit – I think we’ll buy stock, Terri! :-D And milky spore? I’ve not heard of that. Thanks, Terri.

Have you tried “heavy metal” music??? That would drive most anything to the neighbors house, or field in your case! If that doesn’t work then switch to “opera” and finally to “country western twang” This last idea worked for aliens in the movie, Mars Attacks. Since the moles are “aliens” in your yard it’s worth a try! Good luck.

ROFL!

I remember as a kid my grandmother would kill the moles by watching the ground very carefully and then whacking the area with a shovel. She was a very calm lady so maybe there was more than one purpose when she was whacking the ground with all her mite. She did have a beautiful garden.

whack’em into guacamole…

Dave August 11th, 2010

Here’s the solution:

Rent Caddy Shack ! Maybe have Bill Murray come up your way. Some TNT and a few fire hoses will do the trick ! LMAO !

Steve August 11th, 2010

Check this link out Mary and good luck!! I know one trick is to locate the “main” tunnel and focus on that with whichever method you choose to try. A really tall ladder, roof top view or hovering chopper should do the trick. :o )

Interesting comments on your link, Steve. One mole can burrow a 200′ tunnel a day? THAT is an amazing feat. Looks like there are ome good suggestions on there to try – the creatures are thick this summer including deer, jack rabbits and ground squirrels picking up in population again. Joy of joys.

Sheryl, shovels – Dave, fire hoses…

For sure Caddy Shack is in order! We’ll have the guacamole and chips while we’re watching it.

get a jack russell terrier to watch and wait

have mark watch and wait, he’s between jobs

Mary Lascelles August 11th, 2010

Between jobs? This is how he handles that, MDQ…he goes into the EDC office reading up all day long so he’ll hit the ground running, Sept. 1. It has begun.

Where are you again right now? LOL

Personally I love Jacques’ idea re: whacking… and Dave’s too… u can probably get Bill Murray fairly cheaply…

Seriously, I have the same kinds of issues with squirrels myself! Someone told me once to get wolf bane… yeah, thanks. I’ll just down to the 7–11 and head over the wolf bane aisle… Are you kidding me?!?!?!

Mary Lascelles August 11th, 2010

7-11? I think you’d go to Walmart – not sure! LoL

My mother took care of moles….she gardened and when she notice a plant twitching in some way it shouldn’t, she took the shotgun to it, proudly displaying the mole to me. Yes, we lived in rural Northern Ca….You know you’re a redneck when a shotgun is a gardening tool.

Maybe you could send you mom up here, Kevin!

Mole Bait December 22nd, 2010

The best success I have had with getting rid of moles is using the bait and applicator from http://www.mole-be-gone.com

Hope this helps!
