Sunrise Over Lassen August 27, 2010
I wake up to it every morning, Some mornings, just like people, it’s more brilliant than others…
Breathtakingly gorgeous only begins to describe what I was taking in last week when I took this photo. Sitting at over 10,000 feet above sea level and 2,000 feet taller than neighboing peaks, it gets our attention as it changes its mood depending on the weather. Seeing it each day is one of the things I love most about where we live in Northern California.
Mt. Lassen is in the Cascade Mountain Range. Mt. St. Helen’s and Mt. Lassen were the only two peaks to blow their stacks in the 20th century. Lassen blew in 1915 – almost 100 years ago now, as you drive through Eastern Shasta County, it is still very evident seeing lava rocks still prevalent in fields. I love the rock walls
some people have built on their properties. It is a labor intensive thing to do, but what a beautiful result.
Frommers has noted Lassen Volcanic National Park is a must see. It has certainly given us a lot of enjoyment – whether it’s hiking in the park or taking in the views from home
Have you ever been to California? I’d love to know what YOUR favorite view was…
.

Beautiful picture…thanks for commenting on my new listing…it is right next door to our home…love the view! All the best!
Beautiful, too, Suzanne! Why are they selling? Somebody will be lucky to move in…
It is beautiful. Thanks for sharing
Beautiful photograph. Have a nice weekend.
Nice pic…Only the lucky can get the real image of God’s creation with all the magnificent colors for beautiful effects….Just wish I too could be so Lucky !
The view today is quite different, Rick, Lubna and India – it’s overcast enough so no brilliant sunrise at all. We had a little rain awhil ago which is unusual for this time of year. Winter is our season for rain – it’s certainly welcome. Our donkey will have loved it!
I hope you’re off a good w/e yourselves.
Mary, what a gorgeous picture! I might even describe it as heartbreakingly beautiful. Kudos on seeing & capturing it!
Ed
Thanks, Ed – it’s easy to take photos around here that are appealing to the eye – Nature has a way…
I think my favorite view was the desert landscape in Palm Desert when I was there in the mid 90′s; but I have to say the view from the Golden Gate Bridge was my second favorite. It is only second because the first was made by God and the second by man. Now if I ever get to Redding, I think my vote will change to that tree of yours.
There are so very many great views in California, Dan, it’d be interesting to see what you come up with if you do a road trip through the state. I know for a fact that you will enjoy seeing this tree lit up at night while we BBQ!
Beautiful view Mary, thanks for sharing.
