Friday Fun Foto – Thanksgiving Thankful November 19, 2010
What are you especially thankful for this Thanksgiving?
I look at this picture and smile from the inside out and feel so thankful for the opportunity to have been there to take the picture. The fellow holding the little boy’s hands is my husband, Mark. This little guy had just held a cricket bat for the first time! Cricket is everything in India. His mind was already out there playing cricket, I’m thinking.
There were 8 of us (Mike, Tina, Tiger, Susie, Amelia, Kathy, Mark, Mary) from Redding, California who traveled to Ahmedabad, Sayla, and Bhuj in Gujaret, India to place the LN-4 prosthetic hands with those in need. These hands are completely paid for and donated by Rotarians which is pretty cool. They are a mere $50 each but they change lives.
What an orchestrated collaboration between Redding Rotary in California and Rotary clubs in Ahmedabad North, Sayla and Bhuj located in Gujaret, India. Special thanks to our hosts in Ahmedabad – Divya, Rajiv, and Davidas. And to Mohan for traveling with us for days while we went to Sayla and Bhuj. I think a medal is due!!
I am so thankful for the opportunity to travel to India – a land I have gotten more curious about the past few years for many reasons. Now I have been there and experienced it in a most unusual way. I am richer for it and oh so thankful.
Happy Thanksgiving to you all. You’re invited to add a comment about what YOU are thankful for this year.

Hey Mary:
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!
Just read this. What an exciting and noble cause!! Looks like you only touched the northern parts of India. Next time DO NOT MISS the south – especially what is known as “God’s Own Country”! Here is a glimpse —

It was a great experience, Sanjiv. What typically happens is you do something good for something else and it comes back 10-fold. It was certainly true here. We made some fabulous friends and loved our time in India. Thanks for stopping by!
